New Delhi: At an address delivered at his alma mater Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Delhi, Economist Dr. Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister , underscored the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in India’s ongoing economic transformation, calling for closer alignment between higher education and national development priorities.

In a telephonic talk with TheNewsSite. In, on being asked about his experience to be back at the SRCC he said,
“Good to see that the new generation at SRCC is keeping alive the spirit of risk-taking, entrepreneurship and adventure.”
Speaking to the GenZ students on Saturday at SRCC , he situated artificial intelligence within the broader context of India’s structural reforms and long-term growth ambitions. He emphasised that institutions of higher learning must adapt curricula, research priorities and industry partnerships to reflect emerging economic realities.
Dr. Sanyal highlighted significant reforms underway in key sectors, particularly maritime infrastructure. He noted that the government has been investing heavily in ports, shipbuilding capacity, and ownership frameworks to strengthen India’s global competitiveness.
“We are putting significant resources into ports, shipbuilding and ownership frameworks. Over the last twelve months, ownership and flagging rules have been reformed, and banks are being encouraged to extend long-term lending to the sector,” he said.
He further explained that reforms in ownership and flagging regulations, along with efforts to improve access to long-term financing, are designed to create a more robust maritime ecosystem. These measures aim to position India as a serious contender in global shipping and shipbuilding markets.
“While established global leaders will not be replaced overnight, India can emerge as a credible global player over the next five years as the ecosystem strengthens,” he noted.
The address concluded with a call for students to actively engage with emerging technologies and policy developments, stressing that India’s economic ascent will depend not only on infrastructure investment but also on intellectual capital and institutional responsiveness.
The event drew strong participation from the academic community, reflecting growing interest in the intersection of technology, policy reform and national economic strategy.
