Addressing a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after bilateral talks, Takaichi said the India-Japan Investment Partnership continues to strengthen, with more than 100 new business agreements signed over the past year that are expected to bring over US$10 billion in Japanese investment into India. She said an agreement between the two countries’ financial services agencies signed on Thursday would further facilitate capital and investment flows.

Prime Minister Modi said the two leaders have set a clear goal of attracting ¥10 trillion in Japanese investment into India over the next 10 years while doubling the number of Japanese companies operating in the country.

The two countries also unveiled a broad agenda to deepen cooperation across strategic and emerging sectors. India and Japan adopted a Joint Declaration on Economic Security Cooperation, along with a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and another on Energy Resilience.

The leaders also announced cooperation in the biogas sector and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on critical minerals and batteries, underscoring efforts to strengthen resilient supply chains and clean energy partnerships.

Highlighting the strategic dimension of bilateral ties, Takaichi said Prime Minister Modi’s MAHASAGAR vision aligns closely with Japan’s updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) policy.
