NEW DELHI, July 6, 2027 — Rwandans Monday marked the 32nd anniversary of Rwanda Liberation Day (Kwibohora32) in New Delhi, with India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, describing Rwanda as an inspirational development model and reaffirmed the growing partnership between the two nations.

Addressing the commemorative event as Chief Guest, Margherita said Rwanda’s transformation reflects the determination and unity of its people. He noted that Rwanda’s ambition to become a high-income country complements India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and said Indian institutions, including the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), have supported Rwanda’s development.

Hosted by the High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda, the event drew around 1,000 guests, including Indian government officials, diplomats and defence attachés from 140 countries, business leaders, academics, media representatives, members of civil society and the Rwandan community in India. A delegation from Rwanda’s Ministry of Defence, in New Delhi for the Second Rwanda-India Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting, also attended.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to India, Jacqueline Mukangira, said the country’s liberation on July 4, 1994, marked the beginning of national reconstruction after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. She paid tribute to the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) and credited President Paul Kagame’s leadership with guiding Rwanda’s recovery and transformation.

Mukangira highlighted Rwanda’s progress over the past three decades in economic development, security, governance and social welfare, while promoting the country’s investment and tourism opportunities. She also thanked India for its longstanding partnership and pointed to expanding bilateral cooperation in education, information and communication technology, trade, investment and defence.

The programme included presentations by Indian investors Freddy Vinay and Dr. Saurabh Singhal, as well as Rwanda supporter Romit Shah, who highlighted Rwanda’s favourable investment climate and growing business opportunities.

Representatives of several Indian businesses, ranging from aircraft manufacturing and polymer production to infrastructure and construction, expressed strong interest in expanding their footprint in Rwanda, attendees told TheNewsSite.in on the sidelines of the celebrations.

The ceremony concluded with cultural performances by Rwandan students and an Indian troupe from Haryana, celebrating the cultural ties and friendship between the two countries.

Rwanda celebrates Kwibohora every year on July 4 to commemorate the end of the liberation struggle in 1994, a milestone that ushered in peace, national unity and reconstruction following the genocide against the Tutsi.
