Manila, July 22: India and China signaled that their relationship is steadily moving toward normalization, with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar telling Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that a stable and cooperative partnership must be built on ‘mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity,’ while emphasizing that peace and tranquility along the border remains the essential prerequisite for normal ties.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit and ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila, also saw Jaishankar welcome recent confidence-building measures—including the resumption of direct flights, updated visa rules, the restart of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, and the reopening of border trade—while highlighting unresolved concerns over fair market access, trade balance, and supply chain predictability.
