NEW DELHI: The BRICS New Delhi Declaration 2026 could open new opportunities for Indian industry in trade, investment, manufacturing, digital payments and integration into global value chains, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said. The chamber said the declaration provides a platform to translate deeper economic cooperation among BRICS members into tangible business opportunities, particularly by making cross-border trade and investment cheaper, quicker and simpler.

“The BRICS New Delhi Declaration provides an important opportunity to translate economic cooperation among member countries into tangible outcomes for Indian industry,” PHDCCI President Rajeev Juneja said.

“The real impact will come from making cross-border trade and investment cheaper, quicker and simpler. For India, this can support export diversification, manufacturing competitiveness and deeper integration with emerging global value chains,” he said.

The declaration places particular emphasis on the internationalisation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), identifying affordable finance as a key constraint on their participation in international trade and global value chains.

According to PHDCCI, proposed guiding principles for credit assessment of export-oriented MSMEs and a study of an invoice discounting mechanism could help smaller businesses unlock working capital and expand their international operations. The chamber also highlighted the potential significance of improved cross-border payment mechanisms for Indian businesses. The declaration supports continued work on interoperability of payment and messaging channels, along with discussions on trade settlements and investments using BRICS local currencies.

On manufacturing and investment, the declaration calls for resilient and reliable supply chains and greater participation of emerging markets in higher-value segments of global manufacturing and production through trade, investment, technology transfer and productive-capacity development.

PHDCCI said the focus on infrastructure, logistics and development finance could further strengthen India’s long-term competitiveness. The declaration welcomes cooperation on public-private partnerships, multilateral guarantees to mobilise private capital and reduce financing costs, and greater cooperation in sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure and logistics supply chains.

The chamber also pointed to opportunities arising from the declaration’s focus on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, the green economy, climate finance and resilient infrastructure. These areas, it said, could create new avenues for Indian technology, infrastructure, clean-energy and services companies.

However, PHDCCI cautioned that the economic gains from BRICS would ultimately depend on implementation and measurable business outcomes.

“Converting broad commitments into practical mechanisms for market access, trade finance, payments, logistics, investment and technology cooperation will be critical to ensuring that BRICS cooperation delivers sustained benefits for Indian businesses and the wider Indian economy,” the chamber said.

PHDCCI Secretary General and CEO Ranjeet Mehta said BRICS could help India move beyond a traditional export-import relationship towards deeper production, investment and technology partnerships.

“India can strengthen its position to co-create resilient global value chains while creating new opportunities for manufacturing, investment and employment in India and across the member countries,” Mehta said.
