New Delhi: “BRICS takes decisions based on consensus,” meaning its members generally need to agree on major decisions rather than relying on a majority vote. Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of MEA made this comment while talking to reporters in the national capital.
This makes consensus-building central to the grouping’s functioning. Countries with different political systems, economic interests and foreign-policy priorities must negotiate until they can agree on common language and a shared position. As a result, a BRICS declaration reflects a negotiated compromise among its members rather than the preference of a single country. For the host country, successfully guiding discussions toward a jointly accepted outcome can therefore be an important diplomatic achievement, particularly when members have sharply divergent views on sensitive geopolitical issues.
In that case, membership or induction of a new country will be decided by consensus, not by the will of chair, TheNewsSite. In learnt.
“we had participation of 32 delegations, which included 11 member states, 10 partner countries, four regional organizations, and seven international organizations,” Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of MEA detailed in a press briefing.
“I mentioned, around 50 such outcomes across different sectors, and all of these are essentially development-oriented outcomes. The work that will be undertaken on these initiatives, and is already underway within BRICS, will create opportunities for people, for ordinary citizens,” Jaiswal clarified further.
